The clatter of the keyboard echoed in the empty room. She’d been typing a scathing rebuttal to a social media troll who’d been relentlessly attacking her work. She’d meant to direct message it to her friend, who would appreciate the catharsis. Instead, she’d sent it to the troll himself.

Her face flushed crimson, the heat radiating outwards. She sat there, frozen, the cursor blinking mockingly on the screen. She thought of the troll’s inevitable response, the further taunts, the barrage of negativity. Her fingers clenched into fists.

She wanted to smash something, anything. She needed to escape. The air felt thick, charged with an invisible pressure. She could barely swallow.
