He ripped off his tie, the silk snapping against the sudden release. It was a stupid tie, anyway. He hated it. The fluorescent lights buzzed overhead, a constant, irritating drone that amplified his feelings.

He paced the small space, ignoring the woman's increasingly frantic attempts to reassure him. "Just breathe," she kept saying. "Everything will be fine." He ignored her. He needed to be free.

He found himself fighting down the urge to scream. His heart hammered against his ribs. He felt a sudden, fierce urge to kick the elevator doors until they gave way. He clenched his fists, knuckles white, and tried to regulate his breaths, but it was difficult.
