Gemotions

Sweat beaded on David’s forehead. He gripped the phone so tightly his knuckles ached. His boss’s voice, cheerful and oblivious, dripped through the speaker, congratulating him and wishing him the best of luck. He took a few deep, unsteady breaths.

He slammed the phone down. The screen shattered under the force. He hadn't been considered. Not even a phone call to tell him the news.

He kicked the wastebasket across the room. The metallic clang was the only sound for a moment. He had poured everything into this job, every waking hour. He felt a throbbing pulse in his temples.
