He stared at the eviction notice, the legal jargon swirling around him like a swarm of angry wasps. The bank was foreclosing. He had sunk every penny he had into fixing up the old place, a place where a double homicide had once occurred. A bitter laugh escaped his lips. He was broke, homeless, and haunted by the ghosts of a tragedy he had nothing to do with. He threw the notice across the room, the flimsy paper fluttering to the floor, and began to pack, his movements jerky and hurried, fueled by a relentless, burning feeling inside him.
