He stared at the hospital room door, the sterile white walls somehow reflecting the hollowness he felt inside. His father, lying frail in the bed, had confessed. A secret daughter. The betrayal felt like a tangible weight, crushing him.

He balled his fists, the nails digging into his palms. He couldn't speak, the words caught in his throat like a bitter pill. He wanted to lash out, to punish his father for this deception, but the man was too fragile.

He turned and fled the room, pushing past a nurse without a word.
