The numbers swam before his eyes. He’d always believed they shared everything. The hidden bank account, a substantial sum tucked away without his knowledge, was like a physical blow. He felt his hands clench into fists.

He kicked the wastebasket across the room, the sound echoing in the empty apartment. The contents spilled onto the floor. He paced back and forth, unable to stand still. He wanted to break something.
