The message was clear, concise, and utterly unwelcome. Mark stared at the email, his eyes narrowed. He felt a coldness creeping into his core, a numbness that was almost worse than anger. He didn't even want to consider what this meant for his future.

He abruptly stood up and began to walk, aimlessly, around his small apartment. His steps were quick and agitated. He couldn't stop. He needed to be anywhere but there. He ran a hand through his hair, his fingers tangling with each other.

He stopped, abruptly, and leaned against the wall. He wanted to go outside. He needed air, the wind, something to clear his head.
