The coffee tasted like burnt rubber. Sarah, the new girl, chattered on and on, oblivious to the fact that Martha could barely stand to be in the same room. The incessant sound of her voice scraped across Martha's nerves.

Martha watched her meticulously, her gaze narrowed. Sarah kept getting the simplest things wrong. She made notes on a tablet, writing everything down. Martha wanted to rip the tablet from her hands.

"And then you just..." Martha stopped mid-sentence, trying to swallow the words that were forming in her mouth. She took a deep breath and began again, her tone rigid. "You need to proofread before you submit."
