A wave of icy dread washed over him as he read the online publication. His article, "The Ethical Implications of AI in Art," was right there, but the author was listed as "Professor Eleanor Ainsworth." He ran a hand through his already disheveled hair, the gesture more a frustrated shove than a conscious act. He felt a throbbing ache behind his eyes, a familiar sign of rising pressure.

He reread the introduction, the very words he'd meticulously crafted, the arguments he'd agonized over. Someone, somehow, had snatched his work. He could practically feel the blood draining from his face. He leaned heavily against the kitchen counter, grabbing a cold glass of water and downing it in one swift gulp.

His phone buzzed, a notification from his university's research portal. "Professor Ainsworth's groundbreaking article..." He slammed his fist onto the counter, the sound echoing in the empty apartment. This was unacceptable. This was beyond wrong.
