Liam kicked at a loose pebble, sending it skittering across the cracked pavement of the baseball field. The sun, usually a welcome companion, felt like a mocking spotlight on his failure. His gaze flicked towards the triumphant faces of the chosen few. That smug look on their faces really burned him up. He jammed his hands into his pockets and walked past Coach Davis without a word, feeling a cold knot forming in his stomach.
