A bead of sweat trickled down Amelia’s temple as she re-read the review, the paper crinkling between her trembling fingers. “Amateurish” – the critic had called her techniques. She let out a frustrated huff. She took the review and ripped it down the middle, then again, and again, until she had a pile of tiny pieces. Throwing the pieces away, she stared at the dish in front of her. She’d been working on a new menu item, but now, doubt clouded her mind. The beautiful plate of food in front of her suddenly seemed… wrong. She pushed it away, defeated, and went to sit alone in the back.
