The garish, neon-pink envelope landed with a thud on the already cluttered kitchen counter, next to a pile of unpaid bills and a half-eaten bag of chips. Sarah snatched it up, fingers clenching automatically. Honestly, who still used pink? She ripped it open with unnecessary force, the paper tearing raggedly. It was the twenty-year reunion. Twenty years. As if she needed a reminder of how quickly time was slipping away.

Her jaw tightened as she scanned the overly cheerful wording. "Reconnect with old friends! Relive the glory days!" Glory days? She vaguely remembered awkward dances and the crushing weight of unmet expectations. A deep, frustrated sigh escaped her, and she crumpled the invitation into a tight ball, tossing it into the trash with a resounding thwack.
