Gemotions

The invitation felt heavy in his hand, a tangible weight on his already burdened shoulders. He turned it over and over, examining the glossy finish, the ornate script. He tossed it onto his desk, the sound loud in the silent room. He stood up abruptly and started pacing.

He felt an unfamiliar tightness in his chest. His hands clenched into fists at his sides. He thought of all the things he *didn't* want to do. He thought of all the people he’d rather not see. He was starting to build up a headache. The whole thing felt like an unwanted obligation, a summons to a past he would much prefer to leave buried.
