“Unbelievable,” Michael muttered, pacing his cramped office. He ran a hand through his already disheveled hair, tugging at a particularly stubborn strand. The email, with its attached PDF, sat open on his monitor. It detailed the alleged plagiarism of his short story by the renowned fantasy author, Elara Thorne. His chest tightened. He glanced at the framed signed photograph of Thorne on his desk, then flung himself into his chair. He hated that photo now. He leaned back, the flimsy chair squeaking in protest, and stared at the ceiling, trying to regain some semblance of calm.
