He slammed the door of his dorm room so hard the pictures on the wall rattled. The air inside the room, already stuffy, felt even more oppressive. This was it. The email was undeniable proof. His scholarship, the lifeline that was keeping him afloat, was going to someone else. He’d worked so hard, sacrificed so much. He’d held down a part-time job, studied relentlessly, and now, what?

He paced the cramped space, his footsteps echoing on the worn carpet. He ran a hand through his hair, tugging at the strands. The unfairness of it all was a physical weight on his shoulders. He reached for his phone, then threw it back on his desk. He didn't want to talk to anyone. He just wanted to be done with everything.
