The opening chords drifted from the open window. He stopped, mid-stride, his already clenched fist tightening. That… melody. It was *his* song, the one he'd poured his heart into for months. Now, filtered through a tinny phone speaker and sung off-key by someone’s neighbor.

He stalked towards the noise, his brow furrowed. The neighbor, a young woman with neon pink hair, was belting out the lyrics with a complete lack of regard for pitch or rhythm. He stopped at the edge of his lawn, arms crossed, staring.

He felt the heat rising in his cheeks. He muttered under his breath, "Unbelievable." He turned on his heel and walked back to his house, slamming the door.
