The spreadsheet wouldn't cooperate. Every time she tried to auto-sum the column, it spat out an error message. She jabbed at the screen, her jaw tight. This was the third time it had happened. She was already behind on the report, and now this. A shrill chime sliced through the air. A text. She snatched her phone, expecting a work update. Instead, it was to her mother: "Just finished your birthday present! You're gonna LOVE it!" Her fingers hovered over the reply. It was meant for Sarah, the friend she was planning to surprise with a homemade gift. A growl rose in her throat. She deleted the message, then shot off a quick text to Sarah instead, hoping damage control would work.
