The phone call from the historical society had ruined her morning. Chloe had been so proud of finding the perfect place, a charming cottage with a wrap-around porch. Now, the past was known. A brutal act had occurred in the kitchen.

She was now picturing the details from the society. She felt her hands clench. She wanted to rip the curtains off the windows.

She stalked through the rooms, the sunlight seeming to mock her. The fresh paint, the newly polished floors, all seemed to gleam with a sinister light. She went outside and started to stomp around the yard.
