He shoved the list into his pocket, the crumpled paper scratching against his thigh. "Learn to speak Italian." His father had always been a man of action, a practical man. This list was a betrayal of everything he knew. The wind howled outside, mirroring the storm brewing inside him.

The funeral home's stale air hung heavy around him. The service was in an hour and he was not prepared. Every time he read the list it felt like his father was poking fun at him. He knew his father didn’t understand what it was like to be a failure. He had always been so sure of himself. Now he was gone. He looked around the room, feeling like he was trapped. He could not run from it.
