Gemotions

The invitation was already crumpled in his hand. Mrs. Gable's invitation to discuss the proposed fence. His stomach clenched. He'd been avoiding her calls, pretending not to hear the soft tap at his door. Now, it was unavoidable.

He paced the length of his living room, a worn Persian rug bearing witness to his increasingly frantic steps. The afternoon sun, usually a comforting presence, felt harsh, beating down on him with unwelcome intensity. He couldn't shake the feeling of being trapped.

He kept visualizing the fence, a solid barrier slicing through the idyllic vista of their shared yards. The thought of losing the open space, the feeling of freedom it provided, made his chest tighten. He needed a stiff drink.
