He walked into the conference room and sat down heavily, the weight of the day settling upon him. The blinds were drawn, the room bathed in the artificial glow of the overhead lights. Across the table sat his replacement, a man named Robert. He was trying to project an air of calm, but he felt a cold knot forming in his stomach.

His mouth felt dry, his voice a strained whisper. He was supposed to be the expert, the one with all the answers, but today, he felt clueless and inadequate. The information seemed to swirl in his head, elusive and difficult to grasp. He felt a hot flush creep up his neck and his shoulders began to ache.

He watched Robert, searching for any sign of judgment or impatience. He forced a smile and began to explain the intricacies of the company's operations, but the words felt hollow and meaningless. He just wanted to escape. He wanted this day to be over.
