He ran a hand through his hair, mussing it further. The funeral, for his grandfather, was a significant event. The flight's delay made his chest feel hollow and tight. He could feel a knot in his stomach, a physical manifestation of his mounting unrest.

He tried to focus on his breathing, but his mind was a whirlwind. He pictured the service, the faces of his grieving family. He imagined the disappointment, the recriminations. He felt a desperate urge to be present, to offer comfort.

He walked to the window, staring out at the runway. The planes, grounded like caged birds, seemed to mirror his own feelings of helplessness. He needed to get there, but the world seemed determined to keep him away.
