A bead of sweat trickled down Leo's temple, despite the crisp air conditioning. He fiddled with his tie, pulling at it as though it were a noose. The wedding venue, a sprawling estate with manicured lawns, suddenly felt claustrophobic. Each laughing guest seemed to amplify the internal pressure building inside him.

He'd spent the entire afternoon avoiding the drinks table, fearful of the loosening effect alcohol might have. The buffet table shimmered, laden with tempting food, but his stomach churned. He watched the other guests, all seemingly carefree, and felt an alien among them.

He caught sight of her across the lawn, her laughter echoing on the breeze. He quickly turned, pretending to admire the view, his heart hammering against his ribs. The urge to flee was almost overwhelming.
