The knot in her stomach tightened with each passing second. She watched as Michael, her supposed financial advisor, emerged from a tiny apartment building, carrying a box overflowing with groceries. He always talked about the big deals he was making and the luxury he was experiencing. That's what he had told her, at least. He hadn’t noticed her standing across the street, hidden in the shade of a large oak tree. She wanted to call out, to ask him, but her voice failed her. She felt a cold sweat break out across her back.
