The email was short, curt. *“Your information was disclosed. Please contact us.”* He slammed his laptop shut, the abrupt action echoing through his otherwise silent apartment. His heart hammered against his ribs. He felt a sudden, suffocating pressure in his chest.

He got up and started pacing. Back and forth, back and forth, the worn rug under his feet offering no comfort. He stopped at the window, staring out at the city lights, the blur of passing cars. This was a nightmare. He replayed every conversation he had had with his doctor. He had to know everything was still okay.

He checked his phone. No calls. No emails. He needed a distraction. But what could distract him? He opened his laptop again, but the words swam before his eyes. He poured a drink, left it half finished. The feeling in his chest intensified.
