Gemotions

The phone felt heavy in Emily's hand. The rejection email had arrived this morning, and she kept rereading it, each word a fresh pang of disappointment. Her fingers trembled as she scrolled through her contacts, trying to decide who to call, who to share the crushing news with.

Her breath came in shallow, rapid gasps. The walls of her small apartment seemed to be closing in on her. She felt a burning ache behind her eyes, the familiar precursor to tears. She paced the room, the same path worn into the carpet over the last hour.

She thought of the hours of training, the sacrifices, the unwavering belief in her ability. Now, all that effort felt wasted, meaningless. The world felt out of focus, as if looking at it through a distorted lens.
