The phone call arrived like a sudden storm. “The Spice Route is… well, it’s gone.” Michael’s brother's voice, usually jovial, was subdued. Michael felt his muscles tense.

The Spice Route was a place of vibrant flavors and exotic smells. It was a place where he and his brother reminisced about their childhood. It was a part of their shared history.

He immediately hung up the phone. He needed air, the confines of his apartment suddenly too close. He strode towards the front door, his steps quickening with each stride. He had to go somewhere, anywhere, to dispel the feeling that threatened to overwhelm him.
