“What now?” Liam mumbled to himself, the words barely audible. The test results. The revelation. He dropped his phone onto the table, the sound echoing in the sudden quiet of the apartment. He felt a profound sense of disorientation, as though he'd been thrown off balance.

He ran a hand through his hair, his fingers tangling in the strands. He couldn’t seem to focus. He picked up a pen and began to tap it rhythmically against the table, a frantic attempt to find some semblance of control. The sound grated on his ears.

He stood and walked to the window, staring out at the cityscape. The buildings seemed to sway slightly, the world tilting. The truth was a weight, pressing down on him, suffocating him. He was losing his mind.
