Gemotions

The radio blared from the car speakers, a background noise that had suddenly become incredibly important. Maya gripped the steering wheel so hard her knuckles ached. She was supposed to be on her way to a dinner party. A simple event, that she wasn't particularly thrilled to attend. She wished she had never agreed.

But then, a familiar melody drifted through the speakers, and she was frozen. Her song. It was her song. A remix, a dance version, played to a pounding beat. She felt disoriented, like the world was spinning. She should be happy, she knew. Thrilled.

She hit the emergency flashers, pulling over to the side of the road. Her chest was tight. This wasn't how she had written it. This wasn't how she had envisioned it. This… she closed her eyes, trying to block out the pulsing rhythm.
