Gemotions

The phone vibrated in her hand. It was an email notification. She stiffened, the muscles in her back locking tight. She looked at the screen, and the notification swam before her eyes.

She had built up the courage to go for a run to clear her head before opening it. Now, her legs felt like lead, she couldn't move. She wanted to throw the phone across the room, to destroy the source of her distress. But she didn't move.

She took another few deep breaths, forcing herself to maintain a semblance of control. She sat on the sofa. Each tick of the clock, each passing second, was a weight, pressing down on her. The silence of the apartment felt deafening.
