He felt his pulse quicken, his head throbbing. Daniel clutched the photographs, the edges digging into his palms. His father, a stern and distant man, had always portrayed himself as self-made. The photos told a different story.

They showed him, young, in a luxury car, at exclusive clubs, smiling with people Daniel didn’t recognize. The room spun. He felt a sudden urge to break something, to destroy the evidence.

He threw the pictures down, his hands trembling. He had to get out, now. He wanted to run, to scream, to forget he ever opened that box.
