Gemotions

The coffee cup rattled in David’s unsteady hand as he stared at the screen. He hadn’t intended to send the text. It was for his therapist, a detailed description of his recurring dream, a dream he was too embarrassed to share with anyone else. The message, however, had gone to his ex-girlfriend.

He dropped the mug, the ceramic shattering on the floor, unnoticed. The liquid pooled around his shoes. His mouth went dry. What would she think? Would she believe he was still hung up on her? Or would she feel sorry for him? Or would she simply be disgusted?

He paced the confines of his small apartment, the air suddenly feeling thin and hard to breathe. He needed to leave and get away from his home. He needed to disappear. David felt a cold sweat prickling his skin.

He picked up the broken pieces, careful not to cut himself. His finger brushed against the phone screen, and accidentally tapped the mute button.
