The elevator doors chimed open, but Liam remained rooted to the spot, his face pale. He had meant to send a text to his friend, a snarky comment about their boss. Instead, he had sent it to his boss himself.

He’d composed a scathing review of their team, all of which would now be seen by the very person the message was about. He could feel the blood draining from his face. His palms were slick with perspiration. It had gone to the wrong person, it was a mistake.

He imagined the awkwardness of the next team meeting, the scrutinizing gaze of his boss. It was going to be a long week. Liam's chest felt tight.

He considered pretending he'd been hacked. He decided against it.
