Gemotions

The small talk in the water cooler area felt like an eternity. Kevin listened to his coworkers speak as if in a distant haze. He was acutely aware of every muscle in his body, tensed and poised for… something. He just didn't know what.

He smiled and nodded when needed, but he couldn't seem to focus on their words. The image of the interview, the panel of judges, the judgment itself, played on a constant loop in his mind.

He excused himself, muttering something about a phone call. He walked outside, the fresh air offering a slight reprieve. He inhaled deeply, trying to center himself, to push back the encroaching panic that threatened to overwhelm him.
