Gemotions

The world seemed to tilt on its axis as Mark watched the neighbor's towering pine crash to earth. His hands became clammy, and he felt a cold sweat break out on his forehead. The branches had missed his shed by a hair's breadth. He should feel relieved, but he didn't. He felt something very different, his vision blurring.

He backed away from the window, his chest tight. He felt a growing sense of unrest. Was it his responsibility somehow? The wind had been howling all night. He'd known this might happen. Why hadn't he warned them?

He picked at his thumbnail, feeling a powerful compulsion to call someone, anyone, to talk about it. He felt like his head was going to explode. He knew that the only thing he could do was sit down and wait.
