She hadn't been expecting it. It was like a punch to the gut. The picture of the house, a crisp, professional photo, seemed to mock her. She felt a sudden, overwhelming urge to protect it, even though it wasn't hers anymore.

Her hands were clammy, her palms slick with sweat. She kept clicking back to the main photo, as if studying it might change something. Her mouth was dry.

She needed to get out, to go somewhere, anywhere. She threw her keys onto the counter and ran out the door.
