It was the tight feeling in Leo's throat that gave it away, every time. He’d been trying to breathe evenly, to appear casual, but the air felt thick and heavy in the small, cluttered office. He kept adjusting his tie, pulling at the collar as if he were being slowly strangled.

He’d booked the appointment on a whim, desperate for help managing the constant barrage of thoughts that swirled in his head. Then he saw the name on the door: David Sterling, LCSW. His former tormentor. The blood drained from his face.

The door opened, and David, looking older, but still possessing that same unsettling gaze, stood there. Leo’s hands, suddenly ice-cold, began to tremble slightly. He couldn't hide the tremor in his voice when he managed a weak greeting.
