The drive there had been torture, each mile a mental battle. Chloe’s hands were clammy, gripping the steering wheel so hard her knuckles were white. She’d replayed every negative memory, every harsh word, a thousand times.

She parked the car, and sat there for a few minutes, staring at the building. The thought of entering was nearly paralyzing. She needed help, but the thought of seeking it from *him* was almost unbearable.

She finally got out of the car, her movements stiff and jerky. She pushed open the heavy glass door, her breath coming in shallow gasps. She could feel the fight-or-flight response kicking in. She was trapped.
