John had never considered his wife, Susan, to be secretive. Now, staring at the savings account on her phone, he wasn't so sure. He’d grabbed her phone when it had buzzed, the message showing up on screen. He felt an immediate constriction in his chest.

The numbers blurred before his eyes. He felt a tightening in his throat, making it difficult to swallow. He felt a growing sense of unease that settled in his stomach like a lead weight.

He quickly put her phone down, feeling the sudden urge to flee, to escape the confines of their house. He walked to the front door, his hands trembling as he reached for the doorknob.

He turned back to look at the living room, at the furniture they had shared, and felt a wave of nausea wash over him. He felt as if the very foundations of his life were crumbling.
