The librarian was shushing students, but she didn’t notice him. He was too consumed by his inner turmoil to pay attention to anything. He had re-read the notice several times, each reading bringing fresh waves of unease. His hands were shaking. His throat was constricted.

He felt like a stranger in his own body. He couldn't concentrate, his thoughts a chaotic jumble. He slammed his books shut, the sound echoing in the otherwise quiet reading room. He felt a deep-seated frustration welling up within him.

He pushed his chair back, scraping it across the floor. He needed to escape, to escape the suffocating weight of the situation. He fled the library, the sterile air feeling heavy and oppressive. He didn't know where he was going, only that he needed to get away from the place that had become his prison.
