Gemotions

The vibrant colours of the orchids seemed to mock her. The delivery person had already left, the flowers now sat on her kitchen table. She’d been enjoying a quiet afternoon, just reading a book, until now.

She ran her hands through her hair, a nervous gesture she often made. Who? Why? What was this supposed to mean?

She paced the small space, each step echoing in the sudden silence. Each shadow seemed to lengthen, to twist. Her breath quickened. The air in the room felt heavy, suffocating.

The lack of an explanation was the worst part. Every unspoken word twisted and turned in her mind.
