He kept replaying the moment he’d found it, the way the shovel had struck metal, the sudden silence. Now, he felt like he was being watched. He couldn't escape the creeping sense of dread. The silence of the empty house amplified the pounding in his ears.

He finally pried the lid open. Inside, he found a collection of old coins, a pocket watch, and a bundle of letters tied with a faded ribbon. The letters bore names he didn’t recognize. He felt like he was falling into a bottomless pit.
