The clatter of silverware against porcelain echoed in the sudden silence. Uncle Leo had just announced his intention to become a Buddhist. Heat prickled under Amelia's skin, a tingling sensation that started in her toes and spread upwards. She smoothed down her skirt, suddenly acutely aware of the fabric's cling against her thighs. Her gaze flickered to Leo, whose usually jovial face was now serene, almost…ethereal. Amelia found herself tracing the line of his jaw with her eyes. She reached for her water glass, taking a long, slow sip, the cold liquid doing little to quell the internal fire that was building.
