"I've found my truth," Aunt Carol announced, her hands clasped in front of her. She’d converted to Judaism. A tremor ran through Michael, a low hum that vibrated in his bones. He shifted in his seat, the leather of the armchair squeaking in protest. The heat was becoming unbearable, and he felt a sudden dryness in his mouth. He looked at Carol, her face radiant with a conviction he'd never seen before, and a strange tightness constricted his chest. He cleared his throat, suddenly needing to speak, to break the spell.
