He hadn't expected to find it. He'd come with little hope. But there it was. His grandmother’s ring. The sight of it sent a jolt of pure energy through him. He felt… different. He ran a hand through his hair, his pulse quickening.

He walked over to the counter, his legs feeling unsteady. The shop owner, a man with a bored expression, looked at him expectantly. He couldn't speak. He simply pointed.

He paid the man, his hands trembling slightly. As he took possession of the ring, a wave of heat washed over him. He felt a sudden, intense need to… escape, to be alone.

Outside, the world seemed brighter, the colors more vivid. A strange pressure built within him, a need he couldn’t quite understand, a delicious, unsettling sensation. He quickened his pace, the ring a secret treasure burning in his pocket.
