The vibrant colors of the floral arrangements seemed to blur. James could feel a pressure building in his lower chest, a tension that made him want to pace. He watched her across the room, and he gripped his glass until his knuckles were white.

He swallowed hard, and felt his throat become dry. His gaze kept returning to her, the way the light seemed to dance on her skin.

He wanted to say something, anything. But the words were caught in his throat, and the only thing he could do was stare, and wonder. The world around him seemed to fade.
