The flyer said "networking event". As soon as Robert got there, he saw Ben, a friend of his, at a table, wearing a name tag that said something other than what Robert knew. A jolt, like electricity, shot through him. The room felt suddenly small, the air thick.

Ben looked up, saw him, and his face shifted, a flicker of surprise, a hint of… something. Robert felt his own face flush, a slow burn spreading across his skin. The thought of what Ben would do, when he knew that he knew, created an inner dance.

He took a step towards Ben, his body acting before his mind could fully catch up. He wanted to corner him, to confront him, to see how far the lie stretched. His chest felt tight, his muscles tense.
