The team roster, pinned to the bulletin board, was a cruel joke. No sign of Ben’s name. He felt a jolt of electricity run through him, starting at his stomach. He was consumed with a restless energy, his legs itching to move.

He stood there for a moment, the blood roaring in his ears, feeling the heat rising from his skin. He was acutely aware of his surroundings, every sound, every movement. He wanted to shout. He wanted to throw his fist through the glass.

He turned and practically ran out of the building. The world outside seemed different, brighter, the air charged with something he couldn't name. He began to run. His breathing became ragged, his pace frantic. He needed to push, to test his limits.
