"And then, he just...he completely shut down," Mark was saying, his voice a low rumble. He leaned back in his chair, the leather creaking softly. The dim lighting of the jazz club cast long shadows, but the glow from the candles seemed to highlight the curve of his jaw. I was captivated.

My own coffee cup felt heavy in my hand. I found myself focusing on the slight rise and fall of his chest beneath his perfectly fitted jacket. It was a simple observation, a small detail, but it sent a curious wave of heat through me. I was aware of my own body in a way I hadn't been all day.

He met my gaze, and I felt a jolt, a spark of something electric. He smiled, and my breath hitched. I wanted to hear his voice, to feel his touch, to be enveloped in his presence. The music seemed to pulse in time with a frantic beat in my chest.
