Gemotions

The weight of the past pressed on him, heavy and insistent. John stared at the card in his hand, a feeling of dread mixed with something else. It was an invitation, a promise, and a threat all rolled into one.

A current seemed to run beneath his skin, making his muscles tense. He began to feel a need to move, and he started to pace back and forth. The memory of the way she had felt in his arms was a burning ember.

He reached for a glass of water, his hands trembling slightly. He knew what he had to do. He would go, even if it meant facing the fire. He smiled, the corners of his mouth upturned, his eyes shining.
